Study of D*(2010)+- Production in ep Collisions at HERA
ZEUS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports the first observation of D* mesons in ep collisions at HERA, measuring charm production cross sections and comparing results with QCD predictions, confirming the expected increase at higher energies.
Contribution
First observation of D* mesons in ep collisions at HERA with detailed cross section measurements and comparison to QCD models.
Findings
Measured inclusive D* production cross section in ep collisions.
Estimated total charm production cross section at high energies.
Observed increase in charm cross section consistent with QCD NLO calculations.
Abstract
We report the first observation of charmed mesons with the ZEUS detector at HERA using the decay channel (+ c.c.). Clear signals in the mass difference =(D)--(D as well as in the distribution at the D mass are found. The cross section for inclusive \DSpm\ production with in the centre-of-mass energy range \GeV\ has been determined to be nb in the kinematic region \mbox{\{ 1.7 \,\GeV, \}}. Ex\-tra\-po\-la\-ting outside this region, assuming a mass of the charm quark of 1.5 \GeV, we estimate the charm cross section to be at \mbox{}~\GeV\ and \GeV. The…
