Spectroscopy of D Mesons
Stefano Bianco (Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati dell'INFN)

TL;DR
This paper reviews recent experimental discoveries of excited D meson states, discusses their implications for heavy quark effective theory, and provides an outlook on future research in heavy meson spectroscopy.
Contribution
It offers a comprehensive review of new experimental data on D mesons and analyzes their impact on existing theoretical frameworks.
Findings
Observation of $ ext{D}_{sJ}$ L=1 excited states by BABAR, CLEO, BELLE, and SELEX
Experimental results challenge traditional heavy quark effective theory models
Discussion of future directions in heavy meson spectroscopy
Abstract
The scenario of heavy quark meson spectroscopy underwent recently a major revolution, after the observation of BABAR and CLEO, confirmed by BELLE, of L=1 excited states, and by further evidences by SELEX. These experimental results have cast doubts on the incarnations of the ideas of Heavy Quark Effective Theory in heavy quark spectroscopy. I shall review the status of experimental data, discuss implications and sketch an outlook.
