Search for Bs -> mu+mu- and Bd -> mu+mu- Decays in ppbar Collisions with CDF II
The CDF Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports a search for rare Bs and Bd meson decays into mu+mu- pairs in proton-antiproton collisions, setting upper limits on their branching fractions due to no observed candidate events.
Contribution
The study provides the first upper limits on Bs and Bd to mu+mu- decay branching fractions using data from the CDF II detector at Fermilab.
Findings
No candidate events observed in the mass windows.
Upper limits set at 90% confidence level: B(Bs -> mu+mu-) < 1.5×10^-7, B(Bd -> mu+mu-) < 3.9×10^-8.
Abstract
We report on a search for Bs -> mu+mu- and Bd -> mu+mu- decays in ppbar collisions at sqrt(S) = 1.96 TeV using 364 pb-1 of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. After applying all selection requirements, we observe no candidates inside the Bs or Bd mass windows, consistent with the background expectation. The resulting upper limits on the branching fractions are B(Bs -> mu+mu-) < 1.5E10-7 and B(Bd -> mu+mu-) < 3.9E-8 at 90% confidence level.
