K.Okada (for the PHENIX Collaboration)

TL;DR
This paper reports the measurement of prompt photon production cross section in proton-proton collisions at 200 GeV, showing good agreement with NLO pQCD calculations and highlighting the benefits of isolation cuts for future spin asymmetry studies.
Contribution
First measurement of prompt photon cross section at 200 GeV pp collisions using PHENIX, demonstrating the effectiveness of isolation cuts for signal purity.
Findings
NLO pQCD agrees well with experimental data
Isolation cuts improve signal purity
Measurement aids future spin asymmetry research
Abstract
This report presents the preliminary result for the prompt photon production cross section in proton-proton collisions in the mid-rapidity region using the PHENIX detector. The NLO pQCD calculation is in good agreement with the data. The measurement was made with and without an isolation cut. The isolation cut significantly improves the signal purity without reducing the signal yield. This is an important step for the future spin asymmetry measurement.
