TL;DR
This study investigates suppressed B meson decays involving D mesons to measure the angle phi_3 of the Unitarity Triangle, setting limits on decay amplitude ratios and observing significant signals in related decay modes.
Contribution
First measurement of suppressed B decay modes involving D mesons, providing constraints on amplitude ratios and insights into the Unitarity Triangle angle phi_3.
Findings
No significant signal for B^- → [K^+π^-]_D K^- decay; upper limit set.
Significant 6.4σ signal observed for B^- → [K^+π^-]_D π^- decay.
Constraints on the amplitude ratio r_B for these decay modes.
Abstract
We report a study of the suppressed decays and , where indicates that the pair originates from a neutral meson. These decay modes are sensitive to the Unitarity Triangle angle . We use a data sample containing 275 million pairs recorded at the resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric storage ring. The signal for is not statistically significant, and we set a limit at 90% confidence level, where is the magnitude of the ratio of amplitudes . We observe a signal with statistical significance in the related mode, .
