Measurement of the inclusive D*+- production in gamma-gamma collisions at LEP
ALEPH Collaboration: Arno Heister, et al

TL;DR
This paper measures the inclusive production of D*± mesons in gamma-gamma collisions at LEP, comparing experimental results with NLO QCD predictions and estimating the total charm cross section.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed differential cross sections for D*± production in gamma-gamma collisions at LEP energies, separating direct and resolved photon processes.
Findings
Measured D*± production cross sections as functions of p_t and η.
Compared results with NLO perturbative QCD calculations.
Estimated total charm production cross section at 197 GeV.
Abstract
The inclusive production of D mesons in two-photon collisions is measured with the ALEPH detector at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209. A total of D meson events were observed from an integrated luminosity of 699\unit{pb^{-1}}p_{\rm t}^{\rm D^{*\pm}}^{*\pm}W_{\mathrm{vis}}^{*\pm}p_{\rm t}^{\rm D^{*\pm}}|\eta^{\rm D^{*\pm}}| 2\unit{GeV}/c < p_{\rm t}^{\rm D^{*\pm}} < 12\unit{GeV}/c |\eta^{\rm D^{*\pm}}| < 1.5 $. They are compared to next-to-leading order (NLO)perturbative QCD calculations. The extrapolation of the…
