TL;DR
The paper describes the design, construction, and installation of the 'miniskirt' muon detector counters at CDF-II, enhancing azimuthal coverage between pseudorapidities 0.6 and 1.2 during the Tevatron collider upgrade.
Contribution
It presents the original design, modifications, testing, and installation procedures of the complex 'miniskirt' scintillator counters for the CDF Muon System.
Findings
Successful installation of 'miniskirt' counters increased azimuthal coverage.
Design overcame interference challenges with detector supports.
The counters met performance specifications after testing.
Abstract
As a part of the CDF Upgrade for Run-II of the Tevatron collider, the azimuthal coverage of the muon detectors between pseudorapidities of 0.6 and 1.2 was completed by the insertion of stacks of drift chambers and scintillation counters, which came to be known as the "miniskirts" because they cover lower 90^o in azimuth. The design and construction of the miniskirts was rather complex and posed special problems because of its interference with the floor and the supports of the central detector. The original design parameters of the "miniskirt" scintillator counters for the CDF Muon System are presented and the modifications, testing and installation of these counters in the course of the CDF Upgrade Project are described in detail
