Statistical Errors in the Measurement of Particle Thresholds
Robert N. Cahn

TL;DR
This paper provides simple guidelines for estimating the precision of measuring particle thresholds in scattering experiments, assuming ideal conditions without backgrounds or beam spreads.
Contribution
It introduces straightforward rules of thumb for threshold measurement precision in particle physics experiments near the threshold energy.
Findings
Derived rules for s-wave and p-wave threshold precision
Assumed ideal experimental conditions without backgrounds
Applicable to equally spaced cross section measurements
Abstract
Simple rules of thumb are derived for the precision with which s-wave and p-wave thresholds can be determined by a series of equally spaced cross section mesasurements near threshold. Backgrounds and beam spreads are ignored.
