Search for QCD-instantons at HERA
E. A. De Wolf (CERN, Antwerp University)

TL;DR
This paper searches for QCD instanton-induced processes in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA, setting upper limits based on expected final state properties modeled by QCDINS.
Contribution
It introduces a search for QCD instantons in ep scattering data within specific kinematic regions and derives upper limits using a Monte Carlo model.
Findings
No significant instanton signal observed
Upper limits placed on instanton production cross-section
Results constrain QCD instanton models
Abstract
Signals of QCD instanton induced processes are searched for in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA in a kinematic region defined by the Bjorken scaling variables x>0.001, 0.1<y<0.6 and polar angle of the scattered positron >156 degrees. Upper limits are derived from the expected instanton-induced final state properties based on the QCDINS Monte Carlo model.
