Measurement of open beauty production in photoproduction at HERA
ZEUS Collaboration, J. Breitweg, et al

TL;DR
This paper reports on the measurement of open beauty quark production in photoproduction at HERA, using electron identification and Monte Carlo simulations to determine the beauty cross section and compare it with QCD predictions.
Contribution
It provides the first measurement of beauty production cross section in photoproduction at HERA with detailed extrapolation and comparison to NLO QCD calculations.
Findings
Measured beauty cross section: 1.6 nb with uncertainties.
Good agreement with perturbative QCD predictions.
Methodology includes electron identification via ionisation energy loss.
Abstract
The production and semi-leptonic decay of heavy quarks have been studied in the photoproduction process {\rm pb^{-1}}W_{\gamma p}{\rm GeV^2}E_T^{\rm jet1(2)} >7(6)p_T^{\rm rel}$. The data, after background subtraction, were fit with a Monte Carlo simulation including beauty and charm decays. The measured beauty cross section was…
