TL;DR
This paper summarizes key experimental findings on atmospheric neutrinos, highlighting observed anomalies consistent with muon neutrino to tau neutrino oscillations and disfavoring sterile neutrino oscillations, based on Soudan-2 and MACRO data.
Contribution
It provides a comparative analysis of atmospheric neutrino experiments, emphasizing evidence for nu_mu to nu_tau oscillations and constraints on sterile neutrino hypotheses.
Findings
Observation of atmospheric neutrino anomalies consistent with nu_mu to nu_tau oscillations.
Disfavoring of nu_mu to sterile neutrino oscillations by MACRO.
Confirmation of maximum mixing in neutrino oscillations.
Abstract
The results of experiments on atmospheric neutrinos are summarized, with the important exception of Superkamiokande. The main emphasis is given to the Soudan-2 and MACRO experiments. Both experiments observe atmospheric neutrino anomalies in agreement with nu_mu-->> nu_tau oscillations with maximum mixing. The nu_mu-->> nu_sterile oscillation is disfavored by the MACRO experiment.
