TL;DR
This paper explores the conditions for the existence of regular, singularity-free black holes, demonstrating that such black holes require a topology change in a broad class of spacetimes satisfying the weak energy condition.
Contribution
It clarifies the conditions under which regular black holes can exist and establishes that topology change is necessary in many cases.
Findings
Regular black holes require topology change in many spacetimes.
Existence of regular black holes is linked to topology change under weak energy condition.
Provides conditions for singularity-free black holes in general relativity.
Abstract
The conditions are clarified under which regular (i.e., singularity-free) black holes can exist. It is shown that in a large class of spacetimes that satisfy the weak energy condition the existence of a regular black hole requires topology change.
