TL;DR
This paper investigates the renormalization of black hole entropy using Pauli-Villars regularization, clarifying the role of regulator fields and discussing entropy and temperature of extremal black holes.
Contribution
It provides a detailed analysis of the renormalization process for black hole entropy with a focus on extremal and nonextremal Reissner-Nordström black holes using Pauli-Villars method.
Findings
Black hole entropy involves only two renormalization constants.
The renormalization process depends on the spin-statistics of regulator fields.
Discussion on entropy and temperature of extremal black holes.
Abstract
We elaborate the renormalization process of entropy of a nonextremal and an extremal Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m black hole by using the Pauli-Villars regularization method, in which the regulator fields obey either the Bose-Einstein or Fermi-Dirac distribution depending on their spin-statistics. The black hole entropy involves only two renormalization constants. We also discuss the entropy and temperature of the extremal black hole.
