The Equivalence Principle as a Stepping Stone from Special to General Relativity: A Socratic Dialog
S. P. Drake

TL;DR
This paper uses a Socratic dialogue to explain how the equivalence principle bridges special and general relativity, focusing on Earth's surface clock time dilation to aid student understanding.
Contribution
It presents an educational method employing a Socratic dialog to clarify the connection between special and general relativity through the equivalence principle.
Findings
Effective pedagogical approach for teaching relativity
Enhanced understanding of the equivalence principle
Illustration of time dilation on Earth's surface
Abstract
In this paper we show how the student can be led to an understanding of the connection between special relativity and general relativity by considering the time dilation effect of clocks placed on the surface of the Earth. This paper is written as a Socratic dialog between a lecturer Sam and a student Kim.
