TL;DR
This study investigates how Jahn-Teller phonons influence the magnetic and orbital arrangements in LaMnO$_3$, revealing that they stabilize A-type antiferromagnetic and C-type orbital structures consistent with experimental observations.
Contribution
It demonstrates the role of Jahn-Teller phonons in stabilizing specific magnetic and orbital orders in LaMnO$_3$ using Monte Carlo simulations.
Findings
A-type antiferromagnetic order stabilized
C-type orbital order stabilized
Results agree with experimental data
Abstract
The effect of Jahn-Teller phonons on the magnetic and orbital structure of LaMnO is investigated using a combination of relaxation and Monte Carlo techniques on three-dimensional clusters of MnO octahedra. In the physically relevant region of parameter space for LaMnO, and after including small corrections due to tilting effects, the A-type antiferromagnetic and C-type orbital structures were stabilized, in agreement with experiments.
