Potential scattering and the Kondo effect
Valery I. Rupasov (U. of Toronto, Landau Institute)

TL;DR
This paper investigates a generalized Kondo model where a spin-1/2 impurity interacts with conduction electrons through both exchange and potential scattering, revealing how strong potential scattering influences the Kondo effect.
Contribution
It introduces a model combining exchange and potential interactions, showing how potential scattering can suppress the Kondo temperature and alter screening.
Findings
Strong potential scattering screens exchange interactions.
Kondo temperature decreases with increased potential scattering.
Potential scattering modifies the impurity screening process.
Abstract
We study a generalized Kondo model in which a spin-1/2 impurity is coupled to a conduction band by both s-d exchange and potential interactions. A strong potential scattering is shown to screen an exchange scattering, and the Kondo temperature of the system is decreased.
