A Bethe lattice representation for sandpiles
Oscar Sotolongo-Costa, Alexei Vazquez, J.C. Antoranz

TL;DR
This paper models sandpile avalanches using a Bethe lattice with feedback, showing that the resulting avalanche statistics align closely with experimental observations and clarifying discrepancies among different experiments.
Contribution
It introduces a Bethe lattice model with feedback for sandpile avalanches, linking critical behavior to percolation phenomena and improving agreement with experimental data.
Findings
Avalanche frequency spectrum matches experimental results.
Probability distribution of avalanches aligns with observed data.
Discrepancies between experiments are explained by the model.
Abstract
Avalanches in sandpiles are represented throughout a process of percolation in a Bethe lattice with a feedback mechanism. The results indicate that the frequency spectrum and probability distribution of avalanches resemble more to experimental results than other models using cellular automata simulations. Apparent discrepancies between experiments are reconciled. Critical behavior is here expressed troughout the critical properties of percolation phenomena.
