TL;DR
This paper presents a microscopic model suggesting that the formation of a double-well potential could explain the unique electronic and structural features of amorphous carbon, providing insights into its allotropic forms.
Contribution
It introduces a new microscopic model linking double-well potential formation to the electronic spectrum and structure of amorphous carbon.
Findings
Double-well potential formation is a plausible driving force in amorphous carbon.
The model explains specific features of the electronic spectrum.
Structural peculiarities of allotropic amorphous carbon are linked to potential formation.
Abstract
A microscopic model, which describes specific features of the electronic spectrum of various allotropic forms of amorphous carbon as being responsible for their structure peculiarities, is presented. It is shown that the formation of a double-well potential is a possible driving force for this behavior.
