J. Bachteler, H.-R. Trebin

TL;DR
This paper derives an approximate elastic Green's function for icosahedral quasicrystals, accounting for phonon and phason interactions under the assumption of weak coupling, advancing understanding of their elastic properties.
Contribution
It provides the first approximate solution for the elastic Green's function of icosahedral quasicrystals considering phonon-phason coupling.
Findings
Derived an approximate Green's function for icosahedral quasicrystals
Assumed weak phonon-phason coupling in the model
Enhances understanding of elastic behavior in quasicrystals
Abstract
The elastic theory of quasicrystals considers, in addition to the normal displacement field, three phason degrees of freedom. We present an approximative solution for the elastic Green's function of icosahedral quasicrystals, assuming that the coupling between the phonons and phasons is small.
