TL;DR
This study investigates the magnetic properties of (VO)$_2$P$_2$O$_{7}$ using ESR and susceptibility measurements, revealing a spin gap and characterizing the spin chain interactions without phase transition evidence.
Contribution
The paper provides experimental ESR and susceptibility data for (VO)$_2$P$_2$O$_{7}$ and models its magnetic behavior with an alternating spin chain, determining key parameters like J and delta.
Findings
Determined J=51 K and delta=0.2 for the spin chain model.
Found a spin gap of approximately 6 meV from ESR.
No phase transition observed below 300 K.
Abstract
Experimental results on magnetic resonance (ESR) and magnetic susceptibility are given for single crystalline (VO)PO. The crystal growth procedure is briefly discussed. The susceptibility is interpreted numerically using a model with alternating spin chains. We determine =51 K and =0.2. Furthermore we find a spin gap of meV from our ESR measurements. Using elastic constants no indication of a phase transition forcing the dimerization is seen below 300 K.
