Evanescent modes in a multiple scattering factorization
Pavel Exner, Milos Tater

TL;DR
This paper examines the differences between the exact scattering matrix and a factorized approximation in serial structures, using a solvable quantum wire model with impurities to illustrate the concepts.
Contribution
It introduces a detailed comparison between exact and approximate S-matrices in serial scattering structures, highlighting the role of evanescent modes.
Findings
Exact and factorized S-matrices differ significantly in certain regimes.
Evanescent modes influence scattering properties in serial quantum structures.
The model provides insights into the limitations of factorization approximations.
Abstract
We discuss differences between the exact S-matrix for scattering on serial structures and a known factorized expression constructed of single-element S-matrices. As an illustration, we use an exactly solvable model of a quantum wire with two point impurities.
