Thermal Crossover between Ultrasmall Double and Single Junction
Heinz-Olaf M\"uller (Friedrich-Schiller-Uni Jena)

TL;DR
This paper investigates the transition from double to single junction behavior in ultrasmall tunnel junctions using a theoretical approach, with temperature variation serving as the key parameter to observe the crossover.
Contribution
It introduces a theoretical model to analyze the thermal crossover in ultrasmall tunnel junctions within a scanning-tunneling microscope setup.
Findings
Identifies the temperature-driven transition between double and single junction regimes.
Provides a theoretical framework for understanding ultrasmall tunnel junction behavior.
Suggests experimental conditions to observe the crossover.
Abstract
The crossover from double-junction behavior to single-junction behavior of ultrasmall tunnel junctions is studied theoretically in a scanning-tunneling microscope setup. The independently variable tip temperature of the microscope is used to monitor the transition between both regimes.
