The Generalized Gutzwiller Method for n=>2 Correlated Bands: First Order Metal-Insulator Transitions
J. Buenemann, W. Weber

TL;DR
This paper extends the Gutzwiller method to multi-band systems with n≥2, analyzing first-order metal-insulator transitions in a two-band model with Hund's rule interactions, revealing new insights into correlated electron behavior.
Contribution
The authors develop a generalized Gutzwiller approach for multi-band systems and demonstrate its application to a two-band model with Hund's interactions, highlighting first-order transitions.
Findings
Metal-insulator transitions are predominantly first order at half filling.
The generalized method effectively captures multi-band correlation effects.
Insights into Hund's rule interaction influence on phase transitions.
Abstract
We have generalized the Gutzwiller method to the cases of n=>2 correlated bands and report studies on a degenerate two-band model with Hund's rule type on-site interactions. At half band filling the metal-insulator transitions are usually of first order.
