TL;DR
This paper studies energy release patterns in a one-dimensional rice-pile model, revealing power-law energy dissipation indicative of self-organized criticality, and compares different driving conditions with experimental data.
Contribution
It introduces a one-dimensional rice-pile model demonstrating self-organized criticality through power-law energy dissipation, with analysis of various driving conditions.
Findings
Energy dissipation follows a power-law with exponent 1.53
The model exhibits self-organized criticality
Different driving conditions are analyzed for experimental comparison
Abstract
We investigate a one-dimensional rice-pile model. We show that the distribution of dissipated potential energy decays as a power law with an exponent . The system thus provides a one-dimensional example of self-organized criticality. Different driving conditions are examined in order to allow for comparison with experiments.
