Kikuo Harigaya, Shuji Abe (Fundamental Physics Section,, Electrotechnical Laboratory, Umezono, Tsukuba, Japan)

TL;DR
This paper calculates optical absorption spectra of C_70 and C_76 molecules using a tight binding model with Coulomb interactions, analyzing how symmetry reduction affects spectral features, with results aligning well with experimental data for C_70.
Contribution
It introduces a detailed theoretical analysis of optical spectra considering symmetry reduction effects in fullerenes C_70 and C_76.
Findings
C_70 spectrum agrees with experimental data
Symmetry reduction from C_70 to C_76 influences spectral shape
The model effectively captures spectral variations due to symmetry changes
Abstract
Optical absorption spectra of C_70 and C_76 are calculated by a tight binding model with a long ranged Coulomb interaction. The spectrum of C_70 is in overall agreement with the experiment of molecules in a solution. The variations of the spectral shape are discussed relating with the symmetry reduction from C_70 to C_76.
