Ac Stark Effects and Harmonic Generation in Periodic Potentials
Martin Holthaus, Daniel W. Hone

TL;DR
This paper investigates how the ac Stark effect in semiconductor superlattices can induce multiphoton resonances, leading to enhanced harmonic generation at specific laser amplitudes.
Contribution
It demonstrates the potential to control harmonic generation through ac Stark shifts in periodic potentials, highlighting a novel mechanism for optimizing nonlinear optical responses.
Findings
ac Stark effect shifts minibands into multiphoton resonances
Enhanced harmonic generation occurs at specific laser amplitudes
Potential applications in nonlinear optical device optimization
Abstract
The ac Stark effect can shift initially nonresonant minibands in semiconductor superlattices into multiphoton resonances. This effect can result in strongly enhanced generation of a particular desired harmonic of the driving laser frequency, at isolated values of the amplitude.
