I.E. Chupis

TL;DR
This paper predicts a significant change in dielectric response near a magnetic phase transition in TbMnO3, highlighting the potential detection of a phason mode of electromagnons linked to magnetoelectric coupling.
Contribution
It introduces the prediction of a phason mode of electromagnons in TbMnO3 and its relation to the phase transition and dielectric properties.
Findings
Dielectric constant e_zz shows a significant change near the phase transition.
The phason mode of electromagnons is identified as the mode of the phase transition.
Magnetoelectric coupling is proportional to the wave number of the modulation structure.
Abstract
The interaction of light in terahertz frequency region with electromagnons in a sinusoidal incommensurate magnetic state in TbMnO3 is studied. A significant change in the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant e_zz near the temperature of the phase transition from sinusoidal magnetic ordering to spiral spin structure with a spontaneous electric poiarization is predicted. Phason mode of this phase transition is the mode of electromagnon with ME coupling proportional to the wave number of modulation structure.
