Hourglass of constant weight
Volker Becker, Thorsten Poeschel

TL;DR
This paper explores the weight variation in flowing hourglasses and demonstrates how to design hourglasses that maintain constant weight despite the flow of sand.
Contribution
It introduces a method to construct hourglasses that do not change their weight during operation, challenging the common belief about weight variation.
Findings
Flowing hourglasses change weight over time
A design exists for hourglasses with constant weight
Theoretical basis for weight-preserving hourglass construction
Abstract
In contrast to a still common belief, a steadily flowing hourglass changes its weight in the course of time. We will show that, nevertheless, it is possible to construct hourglasses that do not change their weight.
