Dynamics of semiclassical Bloch wave - packets
P. A. Horvathy, L. Martina

TL;DR
This paper explores the dynamics of semiclassical Bloch wave-packets in crystals, deriving their equations of motion from a Lagrangian and Hamiltonian perspective, especially in the presence of external fields using group-theoretic methods.
Contribution
It introduces a Hamiltonian framework for semiclassical electron wave-packets in crystals, utilizing coadjoint orbit methods for external field analysis.
Findings
Derived equations from Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms.
Applied coadjoint orbit method to external field scenarios.
Provided a unified geometric approach to wave-packet dynamics.
Abstract
The semiclassical approximation for electron wave-packets in crystals leads to equations which can be derived from a Lagrangian or, under suitable regularity conditions, in a Hamiltonian framework. In the plane, these issues are studied %in presence of external fields using the method of the coadjoint orbit applied to the ``enlarged'' Galilei group.
