TL;DR
This paper reports the discovery of multiferroic behavior in MnWO4, a magnetic oxide with spiral magnetic order, demonstrating coexistence of ferroelectricity and magnetism below 13 K through experimental measurements.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental confirmation of multiferroic behavior in MnWO4, validating recent theoretical predictions.
Findings
Finite electrical polarization observed below 13 K
Coexistence of ferroelectricity and magnetic order confirmed
Supports theoretical predictions of multiferroic properties
Abstract
We report the multiferroic behaviour of MnWO, a magnetic oxide with monoclinic crystal structure and spiral long-range magnetic order. Based upon recent theoretical predictions MnWO should exhibit ferroelectric polarization coexisting with the proper magnetic structure. We have confirmed the multiferroic state below 13 K by observing a finite electrical polarization in the magnetically ordered state via pyroelectric current measurements.
