Comment on "Probing vortex unbinding via dipole fluctuations"
S.E. Korshunov

TL;DR
This paper critiques a previous method for identifying phases in 2D XY models, showing its limitations, and proposes an alternative approach to improve phase detection accuracy.
Contribution
It highlights the shortcomings of an existing phase identification method and introduces a new approach for analyzing phase transitions in two-dimensional XY models.
Findings
The original method cannot unambiguously identify phases.
A new approach is proposed for better phase detection.
The critique clarifies limitations of previous techniques.
Abstract
We demonstrate that the method suggested by Fertig and Straley [Phys. Rev. B 66, 201402 (2002)] for the identification of different phases in two-dimensional XY models does not allow to make any unambiguous conclusions and make a tentative proposal of another approach to this problem.
