Fluctuation theorem for the effusion of an ideal gas
B. Cleuren, C. Van den Broeck, R. Kawai

TL;DR
This paper derives and verifies a fluctuation theorem for entropy production during ideal gas effusion, supported by explicit calculations and molecular dynamics simulations.
Contribution
It provides the first explicit calculation and verification of the fluctuation theorem for ideal gas effusion.
Findings
Analytic probability distribution of entropy production derived.
Fluctuation theorem verified analytically.
Numerical simulations confirm theoretical results.
Abstract
The probability distribution of the entropy production for the effusion of an ideal gas between two compartments is calculated explicitly. The fluctuation theorem is verified. The analytic results are in good agreement with numerical data from hard disk molecular dynamics simulations.
