R.J. Radwanski Z. Ropka

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates the coexistence of localized crystal-field states with conduction electrons in certain heavy fermion metals, highlighting the importance of local atomic structure in their magnetic properties.
Contribution
It provides evidence for localized crystal-field states coexisting with conduction electrons in heavy fermion metals and emphasizes the role of local atomic structure in their magnetism.
Findings
Localized crystal-field states exist in CeAl3, UPd2Al3, and YbRh2Si2.
Magnetism is strongly correlated with local atomic-scale crystal structure.
Coexistence of localized states and conduction electrons in these materials.
Abstract
We have shown the existence of localized crystal-field states in conducting magnetic materials coexisting with conduction electrons in CeAl3, UPd2Al3 and YbRh2Si2. We point out that the magnetism is strongly correlated with the very detailed local atomic-scale crystal structure.
