TL;DR
This paper investigates how S-mixing influences quantum tunneling in nanomagnets, revealing it significantly affects tunneling frequencies and explains discrepancies between different measurement methods.
Contribution
It demonstrates that S-mixing has a substantial impact on tunneling frequencies and resolves previous measurement discrepancies in Fe8 nanomagnets.
Findings
S-mixing greatly affects tunneling frequency
Discrepancies between spectroscopic and relaxation measurements are explained
S-mixing accounts for over 3 orders of magnitude difference
Abstract
The role of -mixing in the quantum tunneling of the magnetization in nanomagnets has been investigated. We show that the effect on the tunneling frequency is huge and that the discrepancy (more than 3 orders of magnitude in the tunneling frequency) between spectroscopic and relaxation measurements in Fe can be resolved if -mixing is taken into account.
