TL;DR
This paper investigates how a ballistic ring's static polarizability exhibits hysteresis when subjected to intense high-frequency and dc electric fields, showing potential for state switching.
Contribution
It demonstrates the possibility of switching between two states in a ballistic ring by varying electric field strengths, revealing hysteretic behavior of the dipole moment.
Findings
Hysteresis observed in the ring's dipole moment.
System can switch states by changing field strengths.
Hysteretic behavior depends on high-frequency field intensity.
Abstract
A ballistic ring in presence of collinear dc and high-frequency electric fields is considered. A possibility is demonstrated of the system switching between two states by changing the strength of dc and/or high-frequency field. It leads to hysteretic behavior of the ring dc dipole moment as a function of the dc electric field.
