Yi-shi Duan, Jun-ping Wang, Xin Liu, Peng-ming Zhang

TL;DR
This paper investigates topological excitations, specifically skyrmions and monopoles, in an antiferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate, highlighting their different origins and the critical phenomena involved in their generation and annihilation.
Contribution
It reveals the distinct origins of skyrmions and monopoles from different order parameters and discusses critical phenomena in their pair creation and annihilation.
Findings
Skyrmions and monopoles originate from different order parameters.
Critical phenomena govern the generation and annihilation of skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs.
Different spatial distributions of the Neel vector characterize these excitations.
Abstract
Two kinds of topological excitations, skyrmions and monopoles, are studied. It is revealed that these two types of excitations originate from different order parameter fields that reflect different spatial distributions of the Neel vector. Critical phenomena of the generation and annihilation of skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs are also discussed.
