On phase transitions in Pb/Ge(111) and Sn/Ge(111)
A. Cano, A.P. Levanyuk

TL;DR
This paper critically examines surface phase transitions of Pb and Sn overlayers on Ge(111), clarifying structural data interpretations and addressing discrepancies in transition temperature measurements from various experimental methods.
Contribution
It provides a new analysis of structural data and resolves apparent contradictions in transition temperature measurements for Pb/Ge(111) and Sn/Ge(111).
Findings
Reinterpreted structural data impacts understanding of phase transitions.
Identified and discussed discrepancies in experimental transition temperatures.
Clarified the significance of these discrepancies in the context of surface phase transitions.
Abstract
The present communication is a critical examination of two points relevant to the surface phase transitions of Pb and Sn overlayers on Ge(111). One is connected with the reading of the reported structural data, which lead to some consequences of paramount importance but overlooked up to now. The other point is the seeming contradiction in what concerns to the transition temperatures obtained from different experimental methods. The importance of this contradiction, in contrast to the previous point, has been overestimated.
