TL;DR
This paper extends the Budd-Vannimenus theorem to superconductors in the Meissner state, enabling the calculation of surface electrostatic potential from bulk free energy without detailed surface charge profiles.
Contribution
The work modifies the Budd-Vannimenus theorem specifically for superconductors in the Meissner state, providing a new way to evaluate surface potentials.
Findings
The modified theorem relates surface potential to bulk free energy.
It allows potential estimation without solving surface charge distribution.
The approach simplifies analysis of electrostatic effects in superconductors.
Abstract
The Budd-Vannimenus theorem is modified to the surface of superconductors in the Meissner state. This identity links the surface value of the electrostatic potential to the free energy in the bulk which allows one to evaluate the observed potential without the explicit solution of the charge profile at the surface.
