Symmetry Considerations for the Detection of Second-Harmonic Generation in Cuprates in the Pseudogap phase
M. E. Simon, C. M. Varma (Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies)

TL;DR
This paper proposes a method to detect time-reversal and inversion symmetry breaking in cuprate pseudogap phases by analyzing second-harmonic generation variations with temperature, polarization, and incidence angle.
Contribution
It introduces a novel experimental approach to identify symmetry-breaking phases in cuprates using second-harmonic generation measurements.
Findings
Second-harmonic intensity varies with temperature and polarization.
Method can distinguish symmetry-breaking phases.
Provides a new tool for pseudogap phase investigation.
Abstract
A proposal to test the proposed time-reversal and inversion breaking phase in the Pseudogap region of the Cuprate compounds through the variation of Second-harmonic generation intensity with temperature and polarization and angle of incidence is presented.
