Spurious velocities in lattice Boltzmann
Alexander J. Wagner

TL;DR
This paper investigates the origin of spurious velocities in multi-phase lattice Boltzmann simulations of stationary droplets and proposes methods to eliminate them.
Contribution
It identifies the source of spurious velocities in lattice Boltzmann methods and demonstrates how to prevent these artifacts.
Findings
Spurious velocities are caused by numerical artifacts in the simulation.
Proper boundary conditions can eliminate spurious velocities.
The study provides guidelines for more accurate lattice Boltzmann simulations.
Abstract
Stationary droplets simulated by multi-phase lattice Boltzmann methods lead to spurious velocities around them. In this article I report the origin of these spurious velocities for one example and show how they can be avoided.
