The True Colors of Cuprates
J.E. Hirsch

TL;DR
This paper discusses optical experiments on cuprate superconductors showing that their superconducting energy mainly comes from a reduction in carrier kinetic energy, challenging traditional views.
Contribution
It provides a perspective on the significance of optical experiment results indicating kinetic energy lowering as the origin of superconducting condensation energy in cuprates.
Findings
Superconducting condensation energy originates from kinetic energy lowering.
Optical experiments reveal unconventional energy dynamics in cuprates.
Highlights importance of kinetic energy in high-temperature superconductivity.
Abstract
Optical experiments by Molegraaf et al reveal that the superconducting condensation energy of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+\delta} originates in lowering of kinetic energy of the carriers. A perspective on the significance of these results is given.
