Minkowski Functionals in Cosmology
J. Schmalzing, M. Kerscher, T. Buchert

TL;DR
This paper introduces Minkowski functionals as a new morphological tool for analyzing the large-scale structure of the universe, demonstrating their application to simulation data and galaxy catalogs.
Contribution
It provides a tutorial on Minkowski functionals and illustrates their practical use in cosmological data analysis, highlighting their utility in characterizing galaxy distributions.
Findings
Minkowski functionals effectively characterize large-scale galaxy structures.
Application examples include simulation data and galaxy redshift catalogues.
The method offers a morphological perspective in cosmology.
Abstract
Minkowski functionals provide a novel tool to characterize the large-scale galaxy distribution in the Universe. Here we give a brief tutorial on the basic features of these morphological measures and indicate their practical application for simulation data and galaxy redshift catalogues as examples.
