TL;DR
This study explores why older adults who have experienced homelessness feel lonely, finding that mental health and social support are key factors.
Contribution
The study identifies mental health as a central mediator of loneliness among older homeless adults, with indirect effects from trauma and physical health.
Findings
Poor mental health and lack of social support are directly linked to increased loneliness.
Trauma and physical health issues indirectly increase loneliness by worsening mental health.
Regaining housing does not reduce loneliness, suggesting the need for broader interventions.
