TL;DR
A pilot study in Spain found that intergenerational mealtimes with young children may improve well-being and reduce food waste in older adults at day care centers.
Contribution
This study introduces an innovative intergenerational mealtime model and provides preliminary evidence of its impact on older adults in institutional settings.
Findings
Intergenerational meals showed a significant reduction in plate leftovers among older adults.
Participants reported perceived improvements in emotional well-being, motivation, and appetite.
Preliminary improvements in subjective well-being and self-esteem were observed across all groups.
