TL;DR
This study examines public awareness of colorectal cancer symptoms and risk factors and identifies barriers to screening across nine countries.
Contribution
The study provides new insights into global screening barriers and knowledge gaps related to colorectal cancer.
Findings
Awareness of 'lump in the abdomen' was highest (70%), while 'back pain' was lowest (39%).
The belief in low personal risk due to no symptoms was the main barrier to screening (63%).
Healthcare workers had significantly higher knowledge (aOR = 2.70) compared to non-healthcare participants.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide and the third most common type of cancer overall. Colorectal cancer can be avoided with regular screening and lifestyle modifications.
