Xiaoqi Zhang, Jianqiao Wei, Tao Xiu

TL;DR
This review compares Tai Chi with drug and therapy treatments for mental health, suggesting it could be a helpful complementary approach.
Contribution
The paper provides a narrative comparison of Tai Chi's role versus pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in mental health interventions.
Findings
Tai Chi may offer sustained wellbeing without drug-related side effects but has a slower onset compared to pharmacotherapy.
Tai Chi's somatic approach may complement CBT by addressing physiological symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Adjunctive use of Tai Chi with conventional treatments may yield synergistic benefits, though evidence remains preliminary.

This narrative review aims to critically synthesize and interpret existing literature to compare the role of Tai Chi with pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy (primarily CBT) in mental health interventions. It seeks to elucidate TC’s potential benefits, limitations, mechanisms, and its integrative potential within a multimodal treatment framework. Employing a narrative review…
