Marjolijn Heslinga, Marie Louise Luttik, Bouwina Esther Sportel, Evelyn Finnema, Nynke Boonstra

TL;DR
This review explores interventions to support informal caregivers of people with severe mental illnesses, highlighting the need for more research in this area.
Contribution
The study provides a scoping review of interventions for caregivers of individuals with severe depression, anxiety, or personality disorders.
Findings
Eleven interventions were identified, grouped into three clusters: changing thoughts and behavior, understanding the illness, and feeling supported.
The interventions are similar to those for caregivers of people with psychotic disorders and may reduce caregiver burden and strain.
Only 13 relevant articles were found, indicating a need for more scientific attention to this topic.
Abstract
In recent years, care for people with severe mental illnesses (SMI) has shifted from institutional to recovery‐based treatment in which informal caregivers often have an important role. A scoping review, following the JBI guidelines, was performed. Pubmed, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched using the keywords ‘caregiver’, ‘SMI’, ‘support’, ‘interventions’ and related terms, which led to 21 720 references. After removing duplicates (n = 9043) and screening titles,…
