Proposal of Allobrachymonas gen. nov. and three new combinations as replacement names for the illegitimate prokaryotic genus name Brachymonas, proposal of Allobosea gen. nov. and 12 new combinations as replacement names for the illegitimate prokaryotic genus name Bosea and proposal of Alloboseaceae fam. nov. as a replacement name for the illegitimate family name Boseaceae
Umakant Bhoopati Deshmukh, Aharon Oren

TL;DR
This paper proposes new names for prokaryotic genera and families to resolve naming conflicts with existing names in other biological groups.
Contribution
The paper introduces new valid names to replace previously illegitimate prokaryotic genus and family names.
Findings
The names Brachymonas and Bosea are illegitimate due to homonym conflicts.
Allobrachymonas, Allobosea, and Alloboseaceae are proposed as valid replacements.
Three new combinations are proposed for Allobrachymonas and 12 for Allobosea.
Abstract
The prokaryotic generic names Brachymonas Hiraishi et al. 1995 and Bosea Das et al. 1996 are illegitimate because they are later homonyms of the genus names Brachymonas Grassé 1952 (Protozoa, Polymastigidae) and Bosea He and Qian 1979 (a fossil dinoflagellate) [Principle 2 and Rule 51b(4) of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP)]. We therefore propose the replacement names Allobrachymonas gen. nov., Allobrachymonas chironomi comb. nov., Allobrachymonas denitrificans comb. nov., Allobrachymonas wangyanguii comb. nov., Allobosea gen. nov., Allobosea beijingensis comb. nov., Allobosea caraganae comb. nov., Allobosea eneae comb. nov., Allobosea lathyri comb. nov., Allobosea lupini comb. nov., Allobosea massiliensis comb. nov., Allobosea minatitlanensis comb. nov., Allobosea psychrotolerans comb. nov., Allobosea robiniae comb. nov., Allobosea rubneri comb. nov.,…
Genes, proteins, chemicals, diseases, species, mutations and cell lines named across the full text — each resolved to its canonical identifier and authoritative record.

Introduction
The prokaryotic genus Brachymonas (Comamonadaceae, Burkholderiales, Betaproteobacteria, Pseudomonadota) was described by Hiraishi et al. in 1995 [1]. The genus currently contains three species with validly published names. The generic name Brachymonas is a homonym of Brachymonas Grassé 1952 [2], a subgenus of Monocercomonoides (Polymastigidae, Metamonada, Protozoa), elevated to the rank of genus in 2018 [3]. Based on Principle 2 and Rule 51b(4) of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP) [4] and the version of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria in effect at the time of publication [5], the name Brachymonas proposed for a prokaryotic genus is illegitimate.
The ICNP offers two possibilities to resolve the illegitimacy of a name: by replacing an illegitimate name with a new legitimate one, or by addressing a request for an opinion to the Judicial Commission to obtain an exception allowing the illegitimate name to be conserved (see [67] for recent examples). As the replacements proposed in this manuscript are not expected to cause errors or confusion, we prefer the first option here. In accordance with Rule 54, we here propose replacement names, conserving the meaning of the illegitimate names as originally published.

The genus currently contains 14 species with validly published names. The generic name Bosea is a homonym of Bosea He and Qian 1979, a fossil dinoflagellate [14]. Based on Principle 2 and Rule 51b(4) of the ICNP [4] and the version of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria in effect at the time of publication [5], the name Bosea proposed for a prokaryotic genus is illegitimate. It is also a homonym of a genus of higher plants (Bosea Linnaeus 1753, family Amaranthaceae). We here propose replacement names, conserving the meaning of the illegitimate names as originally published.
