TL;DR
This study explores how social interactions affect the functional health of older adults in Japan before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Contribution
The study provides new insights into how specific types of social interaction protect functional status during social disruptions like the pandemic.
Findings
Higher social interaction scores predicted better functional outcomes in older adults.
Interaction with non-family members and adaptability to new technology were strong protective factors.
Social interaction declined during the pandemic, impacting functional health.
