Abstract
Introduction: Personality disorders are enduring, maladaptive patterns that impair social and vocational functioning. The DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) distinguishes Criterion A (personality functioning: identity, self-direction, empathy, intimacy) from Criterion B (maladaptive trait domains: negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, psychoticism). We frame this study within Criterion B, supporting the use of a dimensional approach that complements (rather than replaces) normative models like the Five-Factor Model (FFM) and addresses cross-cultural gaps amid Saudi Arabia’s rapid sociocultural change such as the reforms associated with Vision 2030.
